I started in Bernese Mountain Dogs in 1998 with my first Berner "Daisy". Since then I have been in love with the breed. Unfortunately, I lost Daisy too soon to cancer, but was so happy when a week later Bobbi Kinely-Blewett and Shirley Hoeflinger entrusted me with the happy go lucky "Buttercup". I also had a Great Pyrenees who was so happy to have Buttercup because he was really missing Daisy and feeling very lonely. He put up with alot of abuse from Buttercup, all those puppy teeth!!!! She used to make him bleed all the time and he just took it.lol
Daisy was my learning dog. She was so dear to my heart. I wish I could have done more for her. Since then I tried with Blizzy (but lost that battle) and continue with Buttercup. I try to do all the right things. I feed organic/human grade food (Natures Variety) with no preservatives and do minimal vaccinations as vaccinosis ever growing problem.
I was lucky having had Blizzy and Buttercup being that they are both winners! Blizzy won Best of Winners at the Great Pyrenees National Specialty finishing his Championship at 18 months under respected Judge Edd Bivin. He then went on to qualify for the AKC/Eukanuba Invitational Show 2 years in a row. I now have great memories since Blizzy's passing on 1-19-08 and Buttercup's passing 2-25-2010.
Buttercup has also did very well for herself!! She won 2 puppy groups in Canada, won first place in the 12-18 class at Frankenmuth Bernese National Specialty, then won and finished her Canadian Title at the Ontario Bernese Specialty. She won Best of Winners and Best of Opposite over specials bitches. Then most recently won Best of Opposite Sex at the Northcoast Bernese Specialty in Canfield Ohio beating the #1 bitch in the country and now to add to that has beat the #1 dog in the country, her brother Bono. For 2009, Buttercup has now also won 2 back to back group placements!!!! Buttercup ended up with 3 group placements placing her #24 All Breed for 2009, a huge accomplishment in such a short period of time, being that she was bred and had puppies!
Once again I have to thank Bobbi Kinley-Blewett and Shirley Hofeflinger as now they have entrusted me with Anna, who is Buttercup's half sister!!!!
Please call a responsible breeder before purchasing a BMD and not buy from a puppy mill!!!! BMD ownership is to be taken seriously and they need the best possible care. Do your research and see if this breed is for you??? There is cancer in the breed, longevity has come down and they do shed. Can you handle this???
Buyer beware!!!! Make sure that the parents of the puppy you are buying have had all required testing done according to the BMDCA...OFA Hips and Elbows, OFA cardiac test, CERF and vWD...
